my mum's an OT

My mum's an Occupational Therapist who's just moved away from her previous employer to set up independantly. I offered to design some business cards, Letterheads and a website to give her a kick start.

These are a few initial logo's. I'm not happy with them at all, through feedback i've realised i'm in danger of portraying my mum as a beauty therapist or hair stylist ratehr than therapist.

I am aiming to find a balnce between corporate and friendly. It has to be friendly and approachable with a proffessional edge.
aswell as looking the business.

Another aspect thats been bought to my attention has been the emphasis of purpose. Ithink the logo needs more thought to make more sense. Deleting the cross bar in the 'A' should ideally have reasoning behind and be used as a vehicle to provoke a desired outcome.

Loretta Lux

discovered Loretta Lux when i came across the first Ubersee at the baltic last year.
managed to pick it up for the bargain price of next to nothing £6.

Originally trained as a painter, Ms. Lux continues to draw influence primarily from paintings by Old Masters, including works by Bronzino, Velasquez, Goya and Runge. This influence is especially apparent in Ms. Lux's compositions. Structuring the photographs by carefully choosing the models, costumes, and backdrops, she usually composes the works digitally "to make them meet my ideas perfectly," she says. Ms. Lux uses her own paintings in the backdrops, and photographs the children separately, divorced from any social setting. The artist then places the subjects into the background, digitally enhancing various aspects of the image, including the costumes, subjects and settings. The effect is of isolation and distance, which Ms. Lux explains as a basic experience of human existence. This distance shifts Ms. Lux's images outside the normal realm of portraiture.

Lux's photographs of children are not portraits in the traditional meaning of the word. Rather, she sees them as imaginary portraits which deal with the idea of childhood as a paradise lost. The carefree, innocent childhood ideal is explored in the photographs as an imaginary kingdom, one which is created more by the projection of adult ideals and concerns. The images, portraying self-aware children, are about the discovery of the self, or the development of a concept of one's self. ìWe are radically alone and forced to choose our own path and create our own authentic life, but the self is a mystery,î says Lux.

The Subtelties of Lux's photography make it something special in my eyes.
less is definately more.

Inspired by this fantastic image i forgot i'd come across. i had a sketch and slapped my friend kyles face up on friends with me.

i like your face.

was recently challenged to a facebook graffiti battle. procrastinating as always i happily obliged. very glad i did in retrospect as drawing in phtoshop is somethiing i've never tried before.

Was chuffed with the outcome for a ten minute bodge job.

...........however..
my smugness was short lived as i researched the area i found this unbelievanle video that smashed my efforts top pieces.

G R WALKER.

I was asked recently to design and produce packaging for singer songwriter George Walker.

I accepted.
Below are some initial mock ups.

INSIDE LAYOUT (CD)_
Photobucket

As far as initial designs go i like the general look.
need to play around with colour and tone. Think it needs to stay one or the other to maintain consistency.

The imagery on the front works but needs more, the imagery inside i feel would work better scaled down and again with more going on. Alot of room for more.

I love the raw card and will keep that for sure.
The circle on the cover will be applied to the outer cellafane packaging as a sticker rather than printed on the card.

Initial thoughts were to keep the design tonal and screen onto the raw card, however, having seen imagery in colour i think i prefer it. For this reason i need to research print processes and finishes.

D&AD

My house mate kyle introduced me to the work VINCE FROST and FROST* design agency.

Really love their work.
Particularly relevant to me at the moment is the re-brand they worked on for SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE. The rebrand and promotional material is top notch and illustrates well a contemporary angle taken. The work fuses perfectly, traditional content with a real slant on it, executed with a contemporary edge. ACE.

can't help but take influence form their work.

promotional work for events on at SOH aswell as work done for groups involved with SOH is easily as inspiring.

Scarborough

i won an icecream keyring and a dolphin bouncyball on the 2p machines.

an arm.. not a leg

a quirky effort at a more personalised present.
my girlfriend saw the funny side and appreciated the effort.

As a first time for using image transfer i found the experience all together painless and easy. I'd heard about the stuff being super shit and looking terrible. i was pretty chuffed with my outcome. whether it was our broken iron that gets no hotter than a radiator or just pot luck full stop?? not sure. worked though.

finish is mad shiney, only down side.

well mint stciky plastic texture thats perfect for sticking your face to while catching 40 winks??

as the second is here this friday i unfortunately will not be attending due to a clash with my best buddy back homes 21st. gutting as this time round is the first trial run of opening informal workshops.

VJing is something that has appealed to me a lot but i have nevere known anybopdy who does it or any strating point or way into the discipline. its definately something i hope to pursue and find out a bit more about now i know there is such a following in the leeds area.

came across this yesterday, still attempting to hunt down whteher it is to happen again or whether the events are done and dustded

WEB_DESIGN

just completed my website, a sure improvement on last years effort. Learned the use of framesets and iframes. still alot of tweaking needed and plenty i want to change. Infact, having gained new knowledge in creating my second site i again feel the urge to start entirely from scratch and design a better one.

All absolutely fantastic. Highly recomend each and every.
Altitude is worth a mention purely for its unique make up. with an open boud spine, complete card box dust sheet and old traditional material cover. I LOVE IT, it could be entirely empty.. i still would have bought it.
